Russian drone attack in Ukraine after oil refinery targeted
Russia has blamed Ukraine for setting ablaze one of its oil refineries, while Kyiv has accused Moscow of launching dozens of overnight strikes by unmanned aerial vehicles for the second day running. The targeting of the fuel facility on Thursday occurred at the Ilsky refinery near the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk in the Krasnodar region, Russia's TASS news agency reported citing local emergency services. A fuel reservoir was on fire, it said, but gave no further details. A day earlier, a fuel depot further to the west caught fire near a bridge linking Russia's mainland with the occupied Crimean Peninsula. "A second turbulent night for our emergency services," Krasnodar Governor Veniamin Kondratyev wrote on Telegram, confirming tanks with oil products were set ablaze.

When a professor meets a farmer
Robot developments and the study of social processes can happen side-by-side in RoboHouse. Because we feel that technology should learn to look beyond its own horizons, if we aim to make the workplace more attractive. Why are people leaving the jobs they used to love? To explore these questions, we go into the field with scientists and innovators. Under the banner of FRAIM, our new transdisciplinary research centre dedicated to the future of work. What do robot specialists notice when they travel to places where people and robots work together?
IT & Strategy Talent Programme - Junior Data Engineer at Vattenfall - Solna, Sweden
Vattenfall is one of Europe's largest producers and retailers of electricity and heat. Our main markets are Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and the UK. The Vattenfall Group has approximately 20,000 employees. We have been electrifying industries, powering homes and transforming life through innovation for more than 100 years. We now want to make fossil free living possible within one generation and we are driving the transition to a sustainable energy system.
ROBUST AI programme receives additional €25 million in funding from Dutch Research Council
ROBUST, a new initiative by the Innovation Center for Artificial Intelligence (ICAI), is supported by the University of Amsterdam and 51 government, industry and knowledge-sector partners. The programme aims to strengthen the Dutch artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem by boosting fundamental AI research. ROBUST focuses primarily on the development of trustworthy AI technology for the resolution of socially relevant issues, such as those in healthcare, logistics, media, food and energy. The research sponsor, the Dutch Research Council (NWO) has earmarked an extra 25 million euros for the programme for the next 10 years. ROBUST unites 17 knowledge institutions, 19 participating industry sponsors and 15 civil-social organisations from across the Netherlands.
Futuristic fields: Europe's farm industry on cusp of robot revolution
Artificial intelligence is set to revolutionise agriculture by helping farmers meet field-hand needs and identify diseased plants. "Farmdroid" has made life a lot easier for Mark Buijze, who runs a biological farm with 50 cows and 15 hectares of land. Buijze is one of the very few owners of robots in European agriculture. His electronic field worker uses GPS and is multifunctional, switching between weeding and seeding. With the push of a button, all Buijze has to do is enter coordinates and Farmdroid takes it from there.
New project on musical robots for people with dementia - Leiden University
Under the umbrella of a recently NWO grant focused on using AI to increase quality of life for people with dementia, Rebecca Schaefer's Music, Brain, Health Technology group will collaborate with TU Delft to co-create social agents focusing on musical interactions together with people with dementia. Among other things the co-creation will build on the results and insight of the ReJAM-project. The envisioned social robot supports caregivers to bring about positive experiences and mitigate participation bottlenecks of the PwD (people with dementia). As music has a high potential to stimulate beneficial social, cognitive and affective processes, specific attention will be paid to the selection and provision of music during the robot-guided activitities.

Using machine learning to improve the toxicity assessment of chemicals
Researchers from the University of Amsterdam, together with colleagues at the University of Queensland and the Norwegian Institute for Water Research, have developed a strategy for assessing the toxicity of chemicals using machine learning. The models developed in this study can lead to substantial improvements when compared to conventional'in silico' assessments based on quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) modelling. According to the researchers, the use of machine learning can vastly improve the hazard assessment of molecules, both in the safe-by-design development of new chemicals and in the evaluation of existing chemicals. The importance of the latter is illustrated by the fact that European and US chemical agencies have listed approximately 800,000 chemicals that have been developed over the years but for which there is little to no knowledge about environmental fate or toxicity. Since an experimental assessment of chemical fate and toxicity requires much time, effort, and resources, modelling approaches are already used to predict hazard indicators.
